1985 Challenge Cup Final - Wigan 28 Hull 24 (DVD)

Hull, not Wigan, were Challenge Cup Final regulars in the first half of the 1980's. The Black and Whites, including legendary Aussie Peter Stirling and Kiwi stars James Leuluai and Gary Kemble, were appearing for the fourth time in six years, as Wembley celebrated its 50th Final. But as records tumbled, Wigan's ice-cool Brett Kenny produced a master class display from stand off, creating three tries. Although the Final is perhaps best remembered for the thrilling 75 yard try-scoring run by Henderson Gill. In a grandstand finish Hull battled back to within one score of their opponents, but the Cherry and Whites held on. This was Wigan's first Wembley triumph in 20 years and heralded the start of their dominance of the competition, lifting the trophy eight more times over the next decade.
