Ranbir(Ajay Devgan), an architect from Shimla and Khushi (Rani Mukherji), a hostess, meet by chance in an opulent banquet hall. However, unlike other Bollywood films, they do not fall for each other at first sight. Their relationship grows gradually in a series of meetings. Khushi is an orphan who has been raised by a group of traditional women singers. She instantly takes a liking to Ranbir because of his caring nature and his sense of humor. Slowly this liking ripens into love. Ranbir is close with another woman (Sonali Bendre) which creates ripples in Ranbir- Khushi relationship.
