An all-star cast bites the hand that feeds them in The TV Set, an insightful and fast-moving satirical look at the world of network television development. The TV Set follows an idealistic writer Mike (Duchovny) as he tries to navigate his TV pilot down the mine-laden path from script through production to the madness of prime-time scheduling. Along the way he has to juggle the agendas of a domineering network executive Lenny (Weaver), volatile young stars, a pregnant wife and an ever-optimistic personal manager. His vision of a guy brought back to his home town by his brother's suicide and rediscovers his joy in life, is slowly eroded by a Lenny who favors trashy reality programming like Slut Wars. The irony is that every crass suggestion she makes improves the show's response from test audiences and thus brings the show a step closer to getting on the air. Desperate to get his show aired can Mike stay true to his vision?
