The Banquet (DVD)

Loosely adapted from Shakespeare's classic Hamlet, The Banquet is set in 907 AD China where the Tang Dynasty is in tatters. As infighting threatens to engulf the imperial family, the head of the family takes young Wan as his wife, ignoring the affections of his son, Prince Wu Luan. Hurt by this, Wu Luan goes into exile, studying dance and music whilst the royal family tears itself apart. His Uncle murders his father, takes power and then sends assassins to kill Wu Luan in order that he might never return to claim the throne. However, Wu Luan evades capture and returns to court, only to be exiled again by the Emperor. On the 100th night of his reign, the Emperor holds a midnight banquet in celebration, a perfect opportunity to Wu Luan to return once and for all...
