In 1927, during the 'Northern Expedition' campaign against the tribal warlords, the alliance between the Kuomintang and the Chinese Communist Party went from victory to victory. Governemental leaders General Chiang Kai-Shek and President Wang Jingwei sought to eliminate the Chinese Communist Party. Moved by the courage and patriotism of communist generals such as Ye Ting, Zhu De and Liu Bocheng, General He Long, commander of 10,000 well-trained and well-equipped Kuomintang soldiers, joined at the side of Zhou Enlai to organise an uprising at Nanchang. The first uprising took place at Nanchang on the 1st of August 1927. A bloody battle broke out. The day heralded the birth of the first Chinese Independent Revolutionary Army
